How often should a brand post on Facebook?
This is a very popular question asked of me by my business clients. The answer is ONCE a day, or every other day. A brand can post once Monday through Friday and not post on the weekends. The key is to not make your business or brand a nuisance to your Facebook fans.
One of my business client's asked me this question today after meeting with a Facebook advertising sales representative. The Facebook representative told her to post an update 3 or more times a day so not to miss anyone.
I was shocked! That is absolutely NOT what a brand should do on Facebook.
Think about your own Facebook newsfeed. You get updates from friends, co-workers, family and brands. One thing you don't want to see is 3 updates daily from all your business pages. One post a day every day might be too much, so 5 posts a week might be tolerable.
I get updates daily from my favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox. Some days they will post 4 or 5 updates and as annoying as it is, this is the only page I like that does this, so I am fine with it. What would my Facebook timeline be like if every page that I follow posted 3 updates a day?
I would unlike those pages.
Do you know that the main reason a fan unlikes a page is due to the overposting by the brand?
Social media mis-management runs rampant today. Brands need to understand that they can harm their image by not using social media correctly. It is important to not become a nuisance to your fans and begin posting not more than once a day, five days a week.
